[edit] 1.3.3.10 News
From Scribus List (2008 Jan 9):
for all MacPort users out there, I was able to compile and run 1.3.3.10 out of MacPorts on my MacBook Pro running 10.5.1 and X11 2.1.1.
I submitted the patch to the Portfile and it should be availble to all very soon.
to be appended when more specifics available
[edit] Install X11
If you have Gimpshop, Inkscape or OpenOffice.org installed and running on your Mac, you probably already have X11 installed. To check, go to your /Aplications/Utilities folder and check if X11.app is there.
If you need to install X11, it's in the disks that came with your Mac. With 10.4.9 you run the Optional Installs package on the root of Mac OS Install Disk 1. In the list in the Installer, X11 is found under the heading Applications.
[edit] Install Xcode
You need to install Xcode. Without Xcode, MacPorts cannot install any software for you.
Xcode is on the Mac OS install disk 1 (in Mac OS 10.4.9) that came with your Mac, or you can also download it from the Apple Developer Connection. Run the XcodeTools.mpkg file inside "Xcode Tools" folder. Make sure you use the latest version of Xcode, which is 2.4.1 (for Mac OS X 10.4.9) or 1.5 (for 10.3.9) as of this writing.
[edit] Download and install MacPorts
- Go to the MacPorts website or directly to the downloads directory. Download MacPorts-1.4.0-10.3.dmg for Mac OS X 10.3 or MacPorts-1.4.0-10.4.dmg for Mac OS X 10.4.
- Open the disk image and run the Installer package to install MacPorts.
- Set up your shell environment as per the instructions in the MacPorts wiki.
- Update to the latest version of MacPorts and get the latest port definitions by opening the Terminal and typing:
$ sudo port selfupdate
[edit] Download, compile and install Scribus
In the Terminal, type:
$ sudo port install scribus
The system will ask you for your usual password (you must be an administrator of the computer), and it will download and compile Scribus and all the dependencies that are necessary. Depending on your computer's speed, this will probably take a long time! Depending on your computer's speed, get a cup of coffee, a healthy lunch, or a good night's rest.
[edit] Run Scribus
In the Terminal (or iTerm), type:
$ open-x11 scribus
You'll need to do this every time you want to run Scribus, so you'll probably want to drag the Terminal into your Dock to make this easier.
