For my U.S. Letter business card stationery from [http://www.geographics.com/ Geographics],
I found that I needed slightly different margins.
# Left and Right margins should be 0.75". Top and Bottom margins should be 0.5.
# Vertical Guides should be at 0.75, 4.25, 7.75
# Instead of a shape, insert a text frame. Use F2 (Properties) to position it at X=0.75, Y=0.5, W=3.5, H=2.0
 
Otherwise, as above.

for Word/OpenOffice.
