Stable (older) branch

Current stable version is It will not be updated. This is the last 1.3.3.x series version. Use it if stability is your main concern and more important than the feature set.

Developmental (newer) branch

Current developmental version is 1.4.0 RC2. This is the second release candidate for the 1.4.0 version. It's sufficiently stable for many people to run in production environments, but beware of bugs that might still be there. Report any problems in our bug tracking system.

Note: Newer Scribus version can open the older version's file, but the opposite is not true. Stable Scribus cannot open developmental Scribus 1.4.0 files. There is no way to convert the file back once you switch it to the newer branch. However, you can run both branches in parallel to test the new functionality.

Experimental branch (trunk/1.5.0svn)

This is where most of the exciting new features of Scribus are going. However, there could be dragons galore, so you are only advised to use this version for small very specific tasks and for keeping abreast of the Scribus development, but not for day-to-day production work.
