DRAFT -- DRAFT -- DRAFT
The Scribus Team is pleased to announce the release of version 1.7.0. This is the first release in the next development series of Scribus and brings these major changes and bugfixes:
Changes
- The Qt Advanced Docking System (https://github.com/githubuser0xFFFF/Qt-Advanced-Docking-System) was introduced to Scribus. This supports customized window layouts and full-featured window docking. Palettes can be dragged and dropped to create personalized window layouts for your workflow with auto-hide functionality.
- Implemented SVG-based icons for improved usability and clarity no matter the screen resolution. In combination with a newly designed icon set, the icon set file has also been expanded to include a mapping, which also allows additional options for color manipulation without having to recompile Scribus or edit the individual icons. Graphical elements in SVG files that do not have an inline color definition are overwritten in Scribus with the current UI text color. Optionally, this "override color" can also be defined in the iconset file for dark and light user interfaces.
- Support for light/dark user interface modes now properly implemented with underlying support from Qt6
- Redesigned palettes and their individual panels, making the more consistent and easier to use. The XYZ Panel has a new Base Point Widget. For normal frame objects, 9 anchor points are displayed; for line objects, the widget switches to a 3 anchor point mode. In addition, the widget rotates with the rotation angle of the document object.
- Redesigned page palette with page previews and improved layout. The area of document pages in the Arrange Page Panel has been expanded with a toolbar in order to be able to carry out relevant actions more quickly, such as inserting, moving, copying and importing pages. In addition, the document pages are now displayed in small thumbnails, which can be displayed in three different sizes by right-clicking.
- Redesigned New Document dialog with refreshed page size sets and visualisation.
- General user interface enhancements including improved element visibility and aesthetics, such as selected frame colors and informational label visibility. Improved color selection model.
- Improved page ruler design fixing clarity on higher DPI screens, and improvements to tab/indent marker interaction.
- Add new white-space review mode to visualise page coverage
- Implementation of a new style-based Table of Contents and Indexing functionality, which supports multiple Tables of Contents and Indexes, support for multiple styles, along with page number and item combination, auto separators and capitalization.
- Add functionality to include user defined scripts to the menus.
- Enabled saving to previous versions of Scribus file formats
