Talk:Installing Scribus on Win32
There is the error "There are no Postscript-Fonts on your system" when executing scribus.exe
What can i do there? Where do i have to install the ps-fonts to?
install xorg-X11-fscl/fsrv packages
1. Rerun cygwin setup.
2. make sure you selected the two packages:
- xorg-X11-fscl
- xorg-X11-fsrv
3. rerun scribus
Once I did that the error went away. :)
HTH.
Thanks for trying it out!
@hap0: Hey, cool! That works...Now i want to run 1.3cvs!!! Thanx for your great work
One thing id like to add: there is no real mdi-interface now. all property windows etc are opened as extra windows, not as windows inside scribus. is there a solution?
Oh no as far as the question of mdi vs. sdi goes, that is a matter of how the software is designed at the source and thus if you feel that would be a good idea you would have to submit that as a feature request. Personally I think I prefer the sdi better myself. :)
@hap0: i mean scribus is mdi under kde. that means that the property window for example doesnt hide when making the scribus main window is active. no the palette hides then behind the window, but normally it should stay above.couldnt that be an issue of cygwin?
Purple background instead of white
For the record: I've filed the issue with the purple page background in http://bugs.scribus.net/view.php?id=1772 -- it's seems to be not only a cygwin issue, since there is a similar issue with Scribus running remotely on Mac over ssh. --Mhanski 08:57, 9 Mar 2005 (UTC)
missing cygqt-mt-3.dll file
(I'm a n00b at this, so don't know if this is cygwin related or Scribus install) Installing from binaries. Everything looks and installs fine. However, last step (/opt/scribus/1.2/bin/scribus.exe &) causes this error, stating that the "cygqt-mt-3.dll was not found. Reinstalling may help." Reinstalling has not helped.
Any ideas?
Thanks. --Kevinism 13:59, 11 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Are you sure you have Qt3 installed? --jo-hannes 15:14, 15 Mar 2005 (UTC)
It may be that the path isn't set. Try the following:
- Create this script by copying the following lines into a bash shell and enter RETURN and CTRL-D to close the cat command.
cat >/etc/profile.d/qt33.sh export QTDIR=/opt/qt/3.3 export PATH=$QTDIR/bin:$PATH export MANPATH=$MANPATH:$QTDIR/doc/man
- At last you should reread the environment to activate this settings for your current bash shell with
. /etc/profile
That gives the following:
$ cat >/etc/profile.d/qt33.sh export QTDIR=/opt/qt/3.3 export PATH=$QTDIR/bin:$ PATH export MANPATH=$MANPATH:$QTDIR/doc/man cat: export: No such file or directory cat: QTDIR=/opt/qt/3.3: No such file or directory cat: export: No such file or directory cat: PATH=/opt/qt/3.3/bin:/opt/scribus/1.2/bin:/opt/qt/3.3/bin:/usr/local/bin:/u sr/bin:/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/cygdrive/d/Tcl/bin:/cygdrive/d/Python24/:/cygdrive/d /Perl/bin/:/cygdrive/d/texmf/miktex/bin:/cygdrive/c/WINDOWS/system32:/cygdrive/c /WINDOWS:/cygdrive/c/WINDOWS/System32/Wbem:/cygdrive/d/Program: File name too lo ng cat: Files/Common: No such file or directory cat: Files/GTK/2.0/bin:/cygdrive/c/Program: No such file or directory cat: Files/cwRsync:/cygdrive/d/Tcl/bin:/cygdrive/d/Python24/:/cygdrive/d/Perl/bi n/:/cygdrive/d/texmf/miktex/bin:/cygdrive/c/WINDOWS/system32:/cygdrive/c/WINDOWS :/cygdrive/c/WINDOWS/System32/Wbem:/cygdrive/d/Program: No such file or director y cat: Files/Common: No such file or directory cat: Files/GTK/2.0/bin:/cygdrive/c/Program: No such file or directory cat: Files/cwRsync:/cygdrive/d/Tcl/bin:/cygdrive/d/Python24/:/cygdrive/d/Perl/bi n/:/cygdrive/d/texmf/miktex/bin:/cygdrive/c/WINDOWS/system32:/cygdrive/c/WINDOWS :/cygdrive/c/WINDOWS/System32/Wbem:/cygdrive/d/Program: No such file or director y cat: Files/Common: No such file or directory cat: Files/GTK/2.0/bin:/cygdrive/c/Program: No such file or directory cat: Files/cwRsync:/cygdrive/c/WINDOWS/System32:/cygdrive/c/Program: No such fil e or directory cat: Files/GnuPG:/cygdrive/c/Program: No such file or directory cat: Files/GnuPG:/cygdrive/c/Program: No such file or directory cat: Files/GnuPG: No such file or directory cat: export: No such file or directory cat: MANPATH=/usr/local/man:/usr/man:/usr/share/man:/usr/autotool/devel/man::/op t/qt/3.3/doc/man:/opt/qt/3.3/doc/man: No such file or directory
oh dear. Methinks something has gone wrong.
It looks like something in a newer version of cygwin is breaking the install.
To reproduce:
1. do a brand spanking new install of cygwin, by removing your cygwin dowsnlaods folder and renaiming your cygwin folder.
2. install cygwin with all defult options APART from the packages noted on the main Win32 install guide wiki page.
3. continue following the install guide.
4. Watch it break.
Thanks --Skoorb 14:01, 16 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Ah HA!
after install, type:
cd /opt/scribus/1.2/bin
ln -s /opt/qt/3.3/bin/cygqt-mt-3.dll
THEN try launching.
But if the path is broken, this could be causing problems elsewhere.
As I never got a full cygwin install without this, could someone who knows what Scribus Italic textshouldItalic text be like test this and see if it has broken something.
Please note that I have modified the main install guide to put these 2 lines of code in. It should now work, with any luck.

After Cygwin install: bash: tar: command not found
Having problems! Following the cygwin install, i try to follow the instructions for extracting the scribus and qt archives but tar as a command is not recognised. I checked my cygwin install and tar 1.13.25-6 is there, but tar.exe is not in the /bin directory. My first time using cygwin, any help appreciated. --Hairyson 01:35, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC)
