Model Magazine This magazine was created in the new upcoming v1.5 release. It is a special portfolio showcase magazine for the models who like to have a magazine for them self or they can use it for casting purposes. All the pictures in the magazine has been taken by myself in order to feed my photographical study. This helps me to create art on both sides.

  • 1. Model Magazine A4 size
  • 2. 16 pages full colour RGB
  • 3. Printed by Peecho

Perfect job Scribus, cheers developers and the community. 2015 bring us hopefully the new upcoming v1.6 release let we hope for it.

Magazine production

We are a small group in a non-profit organization (DanChurchSocial) who are making an internal magazine. I am the layouter and until now I have made it with LibreOffice because if there were changes in the group, anyone can download, use and continue the production of the magazine. LibreOffice is a great text editor however not the best for layout of 10-12 pages or more (and it is growing). I have researched for better solutions, software which are easier and more accurate to work with. We did look at the commercial softwares but the costs was far to high. Then we found Scribus which as we see it offers the same solution and features as the commercial software. Maybe there is a difference (of course in exchanging files with users of other software) - anyway we find it very hard to justify the high cost of the commercial softwares. Again, anyone in the group can download Scribus, use it and continue the production. First time I used Scribus it took less than 1/3 of the time I used to spend on layout, editing photos etc. It was a nice surprise to learn that you can edit a photo directly in the layout and it beautifully opens in GIMP. --ClausM (talk) 11:25, 27 April 2015 (CEST)

Series of books on OpenSource software

Scribus Version: v1.4.4

Ik wil met OpenOffice aan het werk & Ik wil met LibreOffice aan het werk
Translates: (I want to work with...)

After producing a book on 'how to produce and publish your own book using Scribus' [1], I had taken up the task of writing a book on OpenOffice 4.x. Due to some complaining German speaking guys at a Linux ralley somewhere in the Netherlands, this title was quickly edited to serve LibreOffice 4.x users as well.
So now we have two titles on sale in the Dutch language:

Soon there will be a next new title dealing with the advanced use of formulas & functions in Calc,
which is used both in OpenOffice and LibreOffice. And there's more to come!
Of course the layout will be done in Scribus version 1.4.4.

Here [2] you can find the cover, originally designed in InDesign :-) by Hans Hollestelle [3] from Kampen
in The Netherlands. The design was then rebuilt using Scribus.
(Some people still have to be persuaded into using OpenSource...)

I find Scribus 1.4.4 a fine program to use in OpenSource publishing in combination with one of the major
Dutch Printing On Demand firms, Scanlaser [4], beit that the interface could do with some improvements.
Eagerly awaiting version 1.5 because a little bird has whistled some promises regarding the interface...

Bimonthly publication of magazine Sennaciulo

Scribus Version: v1.4.4 & v.1.4.5

Sennacuilo is the magazine of the Esperanto-speaking SAT. I took over from someone who was using Scribus v.1.5 (unstable), it was incompatible with my version, so I had to do everything from scratch. That was my real first time for desktop publishing, but thanks to the documentation, etc, I managed to do something that I can be happy about.

With other tools like LibreOffice and Gimp, we can be proud of saying that this publication is (almost?) 100% open source-based.

I found Scribus quite powerful already. Congratulations to the team!
